Betty J. Gerke, age 85, of Fremont,
died Wednesday (Oct. 15th) in Nye Legacy, Fremont.
Betty was born May 5, 1929 in Kansas City, Missouri to Louis and Faye (Dyas) McCammon. Betty lived in Kansas City until her marriage to Dale Gerke on February 4, 1950 in Kansas City, Missouri.
The couple lived in Aberdeen, South Dakota for 3 years, and moved to Fremont in 1953. They operated Dale's Jewelry on 6th St. (Between Main and 'D'Sts) until Dale's death in 1962.
Betty had worked as a secretary for Metropolitan Life before becoming the corporate secretary for the Fremont Medical Associates, PC, in 1971.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church, UCC, where she had served as the church clerk and Deaconess. She was a member of the former National Secretaries Association.
Betty's survivors include Randy Gerke and Nancy Gerke, both of Lincoln, John (Hayley) Gerke of Des Moines, Iowa, Riah Gerke of Omaha, Caranda Gerke of Ames, Carry Gerke of North Bend, Jerad Gerke, Christian Gerke, Jaxon Gerke, Sawyer Gerke.
The memorial service will be 10 AM Monday at the First Congregational Church, UCC. The committal will follow in Memorial Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to her Church. There is no visitation.
