Don was born June 10, 1925 in Hooper to Morton and Ida (Calkins) Mack, and was the youngest of 11 children. He grew u p in Hooper and graduated from Hooper High School. He served in the United States Army Air Force during the WW II years of 1943 - 1946 with some of his time in Guam.
He was an accountant in Hormel's livestock office in Fremont for 40 years before retiring. In his retirement years, Don was an associate at the Ludvigsen Mortuary for 15 years.
Don enjoyed his friends, annual trips to Colorado, feeding the squirrels in his yard, fishing, bowling, and golf. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker Football fan. He also was in a pinochle club. And he had been a Little League Baseball coach for several years. He was an excellent cook and a very good baker, especially with his sugar cookies and fudge.
He has been a member of Salem Lutheran Church since 1947 and had served on several church committees. He was a member of the Fremont Masonic Lodge No.15 A.F. & A.M. for over 50 years, having served as it's Worshipful Master in 1959.
On March 9, 1947 Don was married to Junetta Cornell in Marysville, Kansas. Junetta (Little Mom) died on February 1, 1989, and Don was also preceded by all his brothers and sisters.
Survivors: daughter - Nancy and husband Steve Steil of Omaha
son - Timothy and wife Karen Mack of Frisco, Colorado
2 grandsons - Matt Yerger and Taylor Mack
1 great grandson - Grae Yerger
The funeral service will be 10:30 AM Wednesday (April 18th) at Salem Lutheran Church, Fremont, with the Rev. Delvin Hutton officiating. The committal will follow in Memorial Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Salem Lutheran Church and to Asera Care Hospice.
Visitation will be at the Ludvigsen Mortuary, Fremont, on Tuesday from 3 to 8 PM, with a Masonic Service, open to the public, at 7 PM.
