Joan was born April 7, 1941 on the family farm southwest of Scribner to Leland and Vivian (Hansen) Bode. She grew up and attended rural school there. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Ridgeley Lutheran Church, southwest of Scribner. After graduation from Scribner High School in 1959, Joan moved to Fremont and worked in the offices at the Hormel Company. On November 26, 1961, Joan was united in marriage to Lavon Meyer at St. John's Ridgeley Lutheran Church. They resided on Lavon's family farm where they milked, raised crops and livestock. They were blessed with three children, Kevin, Kim, and Kay. After 21 years of marriage, Lavon passed from this world on June 2, 1982.

On August 21, 1983, Joan married Dean Beck at United Lutheran Church in Scribner. They resided on Dean's farm southwest of Snyder. Joan worked at the Snyder Mini Mart for a period of time while also keeping busy helping with customers for Beck Equipment.

Joan was a member of United Lutheran Church in Scribner. During her life she was active in several card clubs. She enjoyed dancing, bowling, and also kept score for her husbands' shuffleboard teams for many years. Later she took great pleasure in attending activities involving her grandchildren. She was a great supporter of high school athletics and the American Legion baseball and softball programs.

Joan is survived by her husband Dean; son Kevin (Sharon) Meyer of Scribner, daughters Kim (John) Probasco of Scribner and Kay (Keith) Rathjen of Omaha; seven grandchildren, Jason and Nathan (Heidi) Probasco, Andrea Meyer and fiance' Victor Johnson, Alyssa and Justin Meyer, Ariel and Emily Rathjen, and three great grandchildren, Jadison Rathjen, Remy and A.J.
