Vern was born August 10, 1931 in Snyder, Nebraska to Walter and Elnora (Westphalen) Ellerman. He grew up in the Snyder & Scribner area, graduating from Scribner High School in 1950. Then from 1951 to 1955, Vern served in the United States Air Force with duty in Korea.

Following his military service, Vern was a truck driver in Grand Island, hauling ammunition. Then he returned to Fremont and was employed at Magnus Metal for 17 years. In his later working years, he did various other jobs.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Leanne Folkens. Then on April 17, 1970, he was married to Dorothy (Relfe) Weir. She preceded him in death on December 25, 2004. Also a brother Warren preceded him in death and an infant sister.

Vern was a member of Salem Lutheran Church.

3 sisters - Janine and husband Ralph Wagner of Scribner
Donna Kruger and friend LeRoy Watson of Fremont
Joan and husband Don Berg of Scribner
step-daughter - Flo and husband Ed Kovar of Fremont

3 grandchildren
4 great grandchildren

The funeral service will be 10:30 AM Friday (May 4th) at Salem Lutheran Church with the Rev. Michael Thomas and Rev. Delvin Hutton officiating. The committal will follow in Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors by the Fremont Honor Guard. Memorials are suggested to the Church and to the Odyssey Hospice.

Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary, Fremont, will be on Thursday from 2 to 8 PM, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 PM
