Don was born March 6, 1924 in Falls City, NE. to Donald and Dora 'Wheatley' Brown. They moved to Fairbury where he attended grade school and high school. He joined the U.S. Navy in December of 1941. He served on troop ships and operated the Higgins Landing Craft until being discharged in December of 1945.

Don married Ruth M. Kirby on September 17, 1944 and they lived in the Fremont area since 1953 raising a family of six children. Ruth preceded Don in death in 1988.

Don then married Ada M. Knudsen in 1990. She preceded Don in death in 2006. He then took a lifelong companion Mary Ann Fauss in 2007.

Don was a member of the Hooper Masonic Lodge No. 72 A.F & A.M., the Friendship Chapter #122 Order of the Eastern Star, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #10535, American Legion Post #18, 40 & 8 Voiture 1018 all of Hooper. He was also Past Commander of American Legion Post 18 and Past District American Legion Commander. Don was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and the First United Methodist Church in Fremont.

Survivors:
Barbara and husband Lloyd Chilton, Don and wife Cindy Brown, Terry Brown, and Kathy Messier
14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. In addition to his wives Don was preceded in death by a daughter Pat, son Jim and grandson Chris.

Burial will take place at 9:30am Saturday at Ridge Cemetery with Military Honors. A memorial service will be 11am Saturday May 26 at First United Methodist Church in Fremont. Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont with family will be on Friday from 5pm to 7pm with a Masonic Service open to the public at 7pm. A memorial fund will be determined at a later date.

Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont is in charge of arrangements.
