Doris was born June 28, 1931 at Seneca, Kansas to Frank and Elnora (Carlin) Schafer. Doris graduated from St. Peter & Paul High School in Seneca KS. On Feb 21, 1949, Doris was united in marriage to M Wayne Power, and they celebrated sixty-two years of marriage before Wayne's death on April 23, 2011. Their connection was an example of true, unconditional love. To this union five children were born: Wayne Jr., Keith, Joleen, Jenice and Janice. The family lived in Manhattan, Great Bend and Greenleaf, Kansas before moving to Holdrege, NE in 1959, where they enjoyed operating a family owned business and raising their family for 48 years. Doris was employed for 25 years at Christian Homes Retirement Home in Holdrege. In 2007, Doris and Wayne moved to Fremont, NE where they enjoyed spending time with their daughter Jenice and family. Doris was a member of All Saints Catholic Church for many years while living in Holdrege. Doris loved her children and grandchildren and was a generous, devoted and loving influence on their lives.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by Brother Frank Schafer Jr., who died in WWII, an infant brother Charles, and Sisters Bernice McEchron and Jacquelyn Stroehmeyer and son-in-law Dave Linder.
She leaves to mourn her passing her two sons, Wayne (Cheryl) Power Jr. of San Antonio TX; Keith (Bobbi) Power of Houston Texas; three daughters, Joleen Linder of Holdrege NE; Jenice (Brad) Wolfe of Fremont NE; Janice (Kevin) Power-Quitmeyer of Englewood CO. Eight grandchildren: Abigail Christensen and husband Adam of Lincoln NE; Trisha Erickson and husband Chris of Omaha NE; Stephanie Hansen and husband Mark of Boston; Dalton, Pierce and McKenae Power-Quitmeyer, all of Englewood CO; Lila and Caroline Wolfe of Fremont NE; three great- grandchildren, Grant and Thea Christensen of Lincoln NE and Brady Erickson of Omaha; five step grandchildren, Dawn (David) Keith of Greer SC, Kris (Trent) Shaver of Atlanta NE, Richard (Kelli) Linder of Grand Island NE, Shane (Holly)Pierce of San Antonio, TX and Wesley (Lauren) Pierce of Saulte St. Marie MI; six great step grandchildren, Erica and Geoffrey Keith of Greer SC, Wyatt Linder of Grand Island NE, AvaLayne and Barrett Pierce of San Antonio TX and Luke Pierce of Saulte St. Marie MI; sister Charlotte VanValkenburg of Manhattan KS, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services for Doris J Power of Fremont will be conducted from the Evangelical Free Church in Fremont, Nebraska on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 2:00 p.m.
A memorial has been established in her memory to the Fremont Area Medical Center Hospice Program. Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont is in charge of the arrangements.
