He was born February 7, 1933 in the family farm home near Scribner, Nebraska to Charles and Lucille (Welty) Banghart. He attended 2 country schools in the Scribner area, district 66 and district 57 near Webster. When he was 9 years of age, he moved with his family to Colon, Nebraska. His family attended the Presbyterian Church of Colon where he was baptized. He attended elementary school there, then was a student in the Wahoo High School for grades 9 and 10. His family moved to Fremont where he graduated from Fremont High School in 1950.
He was employed at Valmont in Valley before serving in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict years of 1950 to 1953. Following his service, he returned to Valmont briefly before operating the Colon Service Station from 1955 to 1957.
On November 18, 1956, he was married in St. Matthews Lutheran Church of Cedar Bluffs to Verdelle Jensen. They lived all their married years in Colon, mostly on the place where he was raised.
He had Bob's Gun Shop for a few years in Wahoo, then worked for Wahoo Metal Products. Then he operated Bob's-Port-A-Shop (welding & repairs) until returning to Valmont where he worked from 1969 until retiring in 1996.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling. He and his wife were members of Retreads Motorcycle Club and UMCI (United Motorcycle Club International)

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Donna and her husband 'Edward' Mike Stover.
The funeral service will be 9:30 AM Saturday at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Scott Jensen. The committal will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery near Cedar Bluffs with Military Honors by the American Legion Post 265 of Colon. Memorials are suggested the American Diabetes Association. Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont will be on Friday from 2 to 8 PM, with the family present from 6 to 8 PM.
