Mary was born October 16, 1921 in Fremont, Nebraska to Wilson B. and Mayme 'Carroll' Reynolds. She attended Fremont schools and graduated as salutatorian of the Fremont High School Class of 1939. Mary graduated summa cum laude from Midland College (now Midland University) in 1943. While a Midland student, she was employed as a part-time news reporter for the Fremont Morning Guide and the Fremont Guide and Tribune. She was also editor of the Midland newspaper and the Warrior yearbook, and she was active in dramatics and music. From June, 1943 to August, 1944 she was employed in public relations at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. In August of 1944, she became director of public relations and journalism instructor at Midland College, serving four and a half years. She became women's editor of the Fremont Tribune in May, 1949, and did photography and news writing for five years. She has done family property management since 1954. In 1987 Mary was appointed to the Fremont Planning Commission and later to the City Board of Adjustment. She was appointed to the Dodge County Planning Commission in the mid 1970's and has served on all these boards to 2010.
Mary was regent of Lewis-Clark Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, and for four years served as state DAR press chairman. Along with David Kavich of Fremont, she led a local campaign in the mid 1970's to save John C. Fremont City Park from conversion into athletic fields for Fremont Junior High School. As charter member of the Fremont Friends of the Parks, she has been a member of a local committee working on plans for development of John C. Fremont City Park. A member of the first John C. Fremont Days board of directors, she did photography for that event for 21 years and has played the piano for all 22 festivals. She has given piano programs for many years at Fremont care facilities and for other local organizations.
She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church and was organist and a member of the choir and St. Catherine's Guild. She was one of Fremont's photo historians, doing photography for the May Museum, City parks department and other Fremont groups.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Susan J. Bierman, a longtime community leader in San Francisco.
Survivors include: A niece Megan Bierman of San Francisco; a nephew, Benjamin Bierman of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a great-niece, Caitlin Morris of San Francisco; five great-nephews, Manny Bierman, Leo Bierman and Eli Bierman of Brooklyn, and Reilly Bierman-Gwinn and Christopher Bierman-Gwinn of San Francisco; three great-great nieces, Jahcaila Morris, Misha Sue Hayter, and Ka'Lane Greathouse of San Francisco; and a great-great nephew, Jamal Morris of San Francisco.
