Herman was born July 13, 1908 at home south of Hooper to Henry and Gesine 'Suhr' Otteman. He was raised in Hooper. Herman married Margaret Givens on September 17, 1927 and they were married for 71 years. The couple farmed in the Scribner area for 29 years, while farming he helped Tonjes House Moving. After farming Herman went to work for Consumer Public Power which later became Nebraska Public Power for 17 years retiring as Transmission Construction Inspector. After retiring from Nebraska Public Power he began doing masonry work until he finally retired and went fishing and gardening. Herman was a member of United Lutheran Church in Scribner.

Herman was preceded in death by his wife Margaret on January 1, 1999, a daughter, and 2 grandchildren.

The memorial service will be Monday January 7 at 10:00am at United Lutheran Church in Scribner. The Rev. Dr. Nicki McIntyre will officiate. Burial will be in Scribner Cemetery at a later date. There is no visitation.
