Lorene was born July 9, 1921 in Utica, Nebraska to Fred and Johanna 'Finke' Suhr. She spent a brief time in Utica before moving to Fremont at an early age. She attended Trinity Lutheran School through the 8th grade, and then she attended Fremont High School. After her schooling, Lorene worked as a domestic until her marriage.

Lorene and Paul Kuss were married on December 23, 1941 at the parsonage of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Winslow. Paul preceded Lorene in death in February of 1979.

After their marriage the couple lived in Winslow, Hooper then finally to Scribner in 1951. Lorene went to work at the Scribner Good Samaritan Center as a cook. She retired from the Good Samaritan Center as Head Dietician/Cook after 23 years. After retiring from work Lorene went back to school and completed her High School GED in August of 1993. Lorene was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Scribner, were she was a member of its Ladies Aide and also was a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School Teacher.

Lorene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 4 brothers, 4 sisters, and a son-in-law G. Everett Iehl.

The funeral will be Monday January 14, 10:30am at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Scribner. The Rev. Bruce Schut will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. Memorials are suggested to St. Peters Lutheran Church, The Lutheran Hour and Elkhorn Valley Villa in Scribner. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2pm to 8pm with family receiving friends from 2pm to 4pm at Ludvigsen's Scribner Funeral Chapel. Visitation will continue 1 hour before service at the church.
