He was born Oct. 7, 1920 to David and Mattie Stovall. He attended Rosebud High School and business schools. He worked as a manager for Hughes Tools in Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming and Texas.
Burney met his wife, Myrtle Schwab in Midland, TX., via telephone, and the couple married Aug. 15, 1958 in San Antonio, TX. They moved to New Mexico where Burney was manager for Hughes and Myrtle taught at Hobbs High School for five years. From there, the couple went to Denver where Burney was district manager and Myrtle taught in Littleton High School. Midland, TX., became their permanent residence in the 70's where Burney retired. He was truly devoted to his work and family and loved having a good time.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Funeral services were held July 17 at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. A double graveside service for he and his wife will be held Friday, July 25, at 11 a.m. at the Hooper Cemetery. Pastor Joel Schroeder of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials are directed to Hospice Midland, PO Box 2621, Midland, TX. 79702 or the charity of one's choice.
