Al was born November 14, 1932 in Scribner to Herman and Elsie (Hageman) Jessen. He was raised on a farm near Cedar Bluffs, NE. and graduated from Cedar Bluffs High School in 1950. Al was in the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1956 serving in Germany, Northern Africa and the United States. He married JoAnne Kruse on June 29, 1974. Al worked for 29 years at Gambles Warehouse in Fremont. He also worked as a security guard at Hormel Foods Inc., and worked at the Educational Service Unit #2.
Al is survived by his wife and best friend JoAnne of Fremont, a brother Gary (wife Yvonne) Jessen of Fremont, sister-in-law Donna (husband Doyle) Kennedy of Atlantic, IA., and brother-in-law Larry (wife Brenda) Kruse of Omaha. Al is also survived by 12 nieces and nephews, many great nieces and nephews and 2 God-daughters: Renee (husband Francisco) Alfaro of Houston, TX., and Robyn (husband Sean) Roberts of Omaha. "Big Al" will be missed by many cousins, other family members and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; two brothers, Dean and Glen Jessen; mother-in-law and father-in-law Helen (Tiny) and William Kruse; two sisters-in-law, Jean and Alice Jessen.
Al was a member of First Lutheran Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 854, American Legion Post 20, Fraternal Order of the Eagles Arie 200 and the Telephone Pioneers, all of Fremont.
The funeral will be 10:30am Monday July 9 at First Lutheran Church in Fremont (3200 E. Military). The Revs. Charlie Axness and Norman Freund will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to First Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Sunday from 3pm to 8pm with the family receiving friends from 6pm to 8pm at the Ludvigsen Mortuary chapel in Fremont.
Because Al was such a "Big Red" fan, JoAnne and family would like you to wear red and white to the service.
