He was born January 27, 1931 in Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska to Rudolph and Ella Hoffman. He was a graduate of Cedar Bluffs High School, and served 2 years in the United States Army. He worked at Jayhawk Boxes in Fremont for 34 years. On August 31, 1958 he was married to Lovetta Eary. Melvin was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and a sister.
The funeral service will be 10:30 AM Tuesday (Sept. 2nd) at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont with the Rev. Michael Meyer officiating. The committal will be in Memorial Cemetery. The Fremont Honor Guard of American Legion Post 20 and VFW Post 854 will present the United States Flag.
Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary will be on Monday (Sept. 1st) from 2 to 6 PM, with the family receiving friends from 4 to 6 PM.
