Eleanor was born on May 21, 1919 in Zumbrota, Minnesota to John and Jessie (Gibbs) Nelson. She grew up in Zumbrota and graduated from Zumbrota High School in May 1937. She attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa where she met her husband Harry. They were married on November 9, 1940 in Ames, Iowa. They lived in Keosauqua, Iowa for their first year, then moved to Des Moines, Iowa in December 1941. After Harry was discharged from the Army in late 1945, the family moved to Fremont. In 1952, Harry and Eleanor started a farm supply business in Hooper, Nebraska. Eleanor worked in the office in the early years. In 1973, they moved to Hooper. In 1979 they sold the farm supply business.
Eleanor was a member of Sinai Lutheran Church while they lived in Fremont. After moving to Hooper she became a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #18 in Hooper and member of the Dodge County Salon 358 of 8 and 40.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, John and Jessie Nelson, her husband Harry on January 12, 2004; daughter Bonnie in August 26, 2009 and sister Helen Nerhaugen.
The funeral will be 11am Monday August 6 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Memorials are suggested to the Redeemer Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Sunday 4pm to 8pm with family receiving friends from 6pm to 8pm at Ludvigsen's Hooper Funeral Chapel. Private family committal will be held at the Hooper Cemetery.
