Richard was born January 28, 1928 in Monterey, Nebraska to William and Sophie 'Burger' Schlueter. His family moved southeast of Snyder where Richard was raised. He attended St. Leo's Elementary School and attended Snyder High School for two years. After high school he farmed for a short time. Richard married LuAnna Furstenau in 1950 and moved into Snyder in the mid 1950's. He worked various jobs until beginning to do custom corn shelling which he did for over 50 years.

Richard loved to garden, he was well know for his tomatoes which he sold in town. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family and enjoyed going to auctions. He loved to golf and was a member of the Elkhorn Valley Golf Club in Hooper. He served the Snyder Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years. He also served on the Snyder Village Board and was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church in Snyder.

Daughter – Deborah and husband David Wollberg of Scribner
Son – Michael Schlueter of Hooper
8 grandchildren
11 great grandchildren
Brother – Dr. William J. and wife Jerada Schlueter of Omaha
Sister – Marilyn Houser of Fremont
Sister-in-law – Evelyn Schlueter of Hooper

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife LuAnna in January of 1997, daughter-in-law Carol, 2 brothers, sister-in-law, brother-in-law and 2 infant grandchildren.

The Funeral Mass will be Thursday 10:30am at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Snyder. Burial will follow in St. Leo's Catholic Cemetery. Memorials will be established at a later date. Visitation will be at St. Leo's Catholic Church on Wednesday from 3pm to 8pm with the family receiving friends from 6pm to 7pm. A public Vigil Service will be at 7pm also at the church.

"Richard was a great guy and will be missed. I had the privalege to shell corn with him numerous times some 25+ years ago in my youth. That's when I learned that rats will seek refuge in any dark hole, even if that is the bottom of your pants leg. Didn't seem as funny then. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Jim Metschke"
