Leigh was born March 25, 1922 to Boyd Lee and Ida 'Prawitz' Flores on the family farm northeast of West Point. He was baptized at Grace Lutheran Church and confirmed there in 1936. He attended District 22 school and graduated from West Point High School in 1939. Leigh farmed with his father and in 1942 he moved with his parents to a larger farm northeast of Hooper. In June 1946 he married Lois Wapelhorst of Scribner, and the couple moved to a farm southwest of Uehling. After ten years they bought their own farm north of Hooper. Leigh and Lois moved to Scribner in 1989, but Leigh continued to farm with his son Stephen until his death in 2002. Leigh was a 29 year cancer survivor and beat the medical odds many times throughout his life.
Leigh was an avid baseball player who played with various town teams. He served on St. Paul Lutheran Church Council, Co-op Board, School Board, and was a salesman as well as board member for Farmer's Mutual Home Insurance Company. Leigh enjoyed traveling with friends and family throughout the years. He completed the daily crossword puzzles and loved to play cards. Leigh loved being on the farm, working with wood on his lathe, and supporting his grandkids by attending their various events, even if it meant a five-hour drive to get there. He attended several of his great-grandkids ballgames this past summer. Leigh loved being surrounded by family and friends and truly enjoyed his surprise 90th birthday party.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years Lois; son Rodney (Kathy) Flores of Larkspur, CO.; daughters-in-law, Jane (Dale Suhr) Flores of Hooper and Julie Flores of Dysart, IA. He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren, Brian Flores, Becky (James) Sells, Stacey (Shawn) Smith, Barb Flores, Laura Flores, Blake (Kaela) Flores, Ian (Erin) Flores, Haley Flores; two step grandchildren, Kelly (Julie) Lefler and Karmen (Travis) Hembury; 4 great grandchildren, Breanna, Ellie, Jacob, Tessa Smith; and three step great grandchildren, Katelyn and Jack Lefler, and Kameron Hembury. Leigh is also survived by a brother Gordon Flores of Loveland, CO; Brother-in-law Carl Hiatt of Colorado Springs, CO; and sister-in-law Anna Louise Flores of West Point.
He was preceded in death by two sons Stephen and Jeffrey, two sisters Doris Johnson and Dorthy Hiatt, and one brother Earl Flores.
The funeral will be 10:30am Tuesday August 7 at St. Paul Lutheran Church north of Hooper. The Rev. Judy Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 3pm to 8pm with the family receiving friends from 6pm to 8pm at Ludvigsen's Scribner Funeral Chapel. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church.
