Milton M. 'Rusty' Johnson age 86
of Fremont, entered the gates of heaven on August 5, 2012 at the Fremont Area Medical Center.
Milton was born on August 13, 1925 to Emerson and Amelia (Buettner) Johnson in Spencer, NE. His school years were spent living not only in Spencer, but also in Lynch, NE. starting his 3rd grade year. At some time the family moved to the small town of Monowi, where his father was employed with the Railroad. Milton was then bused from Monowi to Lynch for his high school years.
Milton graduated in 1943 from Lynch High School and joined the U.S. Navy Reserve that same year. He served as a Seaman 1st Class, V6 in WWII through 1946. After coming to Fremont in 1947 he then was employed for approximately five years with Chicago Northwestern Railroad. While working his next job with Hormel Foods he attended school at an Omaha Electronic Radio and TV Institute for one year. Using his new education, Milton then began his own business of Rusty's TV/Radio Sales and Service in Fremont with the grand opening in downtown Fremont in 1954. As his business successfully continued, he moved his location to the corner of 19th and Bell Streets until he semi-retired to his home garage for repair work only. Not long after, he then fully retired to enjoy life.
In 1949, Milton married Betty L. Lutzelman of Fremont. They had three daughters; Marta (David) Degroot, Marlene Hull, and Marilyn (Robert) Wise. Betty passed away in 2007 after 58 years of marriage.
Milton enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, following them to all sports activities, music/dance performances, recitals and contests, school programs and ceremonies, all which each time filled his heart with pride and joy. He also spent many hous in his huge yard landscaping and gardening with fruit trees and bushes, his cornstalk field, and veggies everywhere! He also enjoyed traveling time with his wife and children including Spain, Switzerland, German, Italy and many US states. Being an avid Husker fan, he also made game time a family event cheering on the team along with the "tailgate" food and fun in the family room at home. Family always came first in his heart and he was there whenever or wherever he was needed. Milton was remarkable man to many and will be truly missed.
Milton was a member of the The Presbyterian Church, where he and Betty were members of the Mariners Club, served as an usher, and helped with many church functions. He also belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Disabled American Vets.
Survivors include daughters Marlene Hull and Marilyn (Robert) Wise; grandchildren Heath and Heather DeGroot, Trevor (Cynthia) Hull and their children Trenton and Abigail; Travis (Kim) Sorensen and their children Joslin, T.J. & Natalie; Tiffani (Ryan) Brown and their children Logan & Wyatt; Tory (Sara) Sorensen and their children Taylor & Spencer Sorensen and Callie & Kaydance Goertz; Tausha Hull, Tarah Sorensen, and Toni Hull; brothers Franklin (Marion) Johnson, LeRoy (Rosemary) Johnson, sisters Darlene (James) Eaton, Joyce Crosley, Lucille (Chuck) Faughender, Beverly (Bob) Boes, and many nieces and nephews.
Milton was welcomed into heaven by his parents; wife Betty; daughter and son-in-law Marta & Dave; brothers Melvin Johnson, Donald Johnson, and Marvin Johnson; sister Aleyne Crosley and other loved ones.
The funeral for Milton will be 11am Saturday August 11 at The Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be 2-8pm Friday with the family receiving friends from 6pm to 8pm at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont. Private family burial will be at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont at a later date.
