Gene was born on December 27, 1932 in Oakland, Nebraska to Clarence A. and Clara M. 'Schlichting' Nelson and was raised on the Nelson farm east of town. She graduated from Oakland High School in 1950. After high school, Gene worked for one year with her father's trucking business then was employed at the Hormel Foods Corporation from 1952 to 1955.
Gene married Charles L. Graulich on September 4, 1955 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont. They farmed east of Fremont for 43 years. During this time, she was also employed at Earl May Nursery Center for 14 years. Charles and Gene retired in 2000 and moved into Fremont.
Gene was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Trinity Lutheran Women and Ruth Circle.
Gene had many passions in life. She enjoyed tending to her flowers, sewing and quilting, square dancing and bowling. Gene also enjoyed supporting her daughters in 4-h and sports. Both Charles and Gene played sheephead with lifelong friends for over 40 years. Friends and family always came first. She will truly be missed.

Gene was preceded in death by her parents, brother Arnold, brothers-in-law Jerry Boyd and Paul Luebbert.
The funeral will be 10:30am Friday August 17 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont. The Rev. Dan Heuer and The Rev. Dr. David Coe will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund and Trinity Lutheran School. Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary chapel will be Thursday from 3pm to 8pm with the family receiving friends from 6pm to 8pm. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church.
