She was born on April 6, 1922, in Carson, Iowa to John Jefferson McKenzie and Maggie Elsie McKenzie. The family moved to Fremont when she was six. Vera graduated from Fremont Senior High School in 1941. Before her marriage she had worked as a secretary in an insurance office. She married Lloyd Meier on September 1, 1957.
Vera was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fremont and had served as President of the United Methodist Women. In earlier years, Vera was a Sunday School teacher. She had also been a 4-H Leader.
Survivors include: daughter, Nancy I. Meier of Fremont and son, Dr. Alois (Al) Meier and wife Peggy, and two grand children, Craig and Elizabeth of Deshler, Nebraska, brother Verne McKenzie and wife Janet of Gainesville, Florida, and sister Viola Pugh of Omaha, Nebraska, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Willard and Marjorie Meier and John and Arlene Adams, all of Fremont. She was preceded in death by husband, Lloyd J. Meier, in June, 1990, and by two brothers and three sisters.
The funeral will be 10:30am Friday July 24, in the First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Thursday 3pm to 8pm with the family receiving friends from 6pm to 8pm at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel. Memorials have been established to First United Methodist Church in Fremont. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery.
