Roy was born to John and Edith (Tribsees) Carstensen on November 20, 1925 in Norfolk, Nebraska. He spent his younger years in Norfolk and received his education there.

During the WW II years he served in the United States Army as a drill instructor. Roy was employed by Hormel's Meat Packing Plant in Fremont for 40 years.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church where he served in several different positions on the church council. He was a charter member of the Inglewood Rural Fire Dept. and was active with the department for many years. Roy was also involved with the Low Income Ministry.

He was married on July 3, 1945 in Nyack, New York to Betty Bubbert.

He was preceded in death by 4 sisters, 1 brother, and 2 great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be 10:30 AM Wednesday (August 29, 2012) at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Charlie Axness. The committal will follow in Ridge Cemetery with Military Honors by the Fremont Honor Guard (American Legion Post 20 & VFW Post 854). Memorials are suggested to his church and to the Low Income Ministry.

Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary, Fremont, will be on Tuesday from 2 to 8 PM, with the family receiving from 6 to 8 PM. Visitation continues Wednesday at the church for an hour before the service.
