He was born May 9, 1947 in Cleveland, Ohio to Raymond and Gretta (Crosby) Hook, and adopted at an early age by George McMahon. At the age of 3, he moved with his family to Arlington, NE, and at age 8, he came with his family to Fremont. He was 1966 graduate of Fremont Senior High School. Later, he received a degree from LaSalle University.
He enlisted in the United States Army in 1966, then served in the Navy aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard aircraft carrier. He was discharged in 1968. In Fremont he had worked as a dispatcher for Little Audrey's Transportation Co. and had been an officer with the Fremont Police Department. He worked at Valmont as a welder and then as a design engineer. He worked for Control Data in Omaha, and then he was with Vickers.
An awesome life long musician, he had been inducted into the Nebraska Music Hall of Fame and was a recipient of their Ron Tuccitto Award. He played in various area bands, and had been the opening act for several well known groups. He was a founding member of the Brakman, and also the Haywood Wakefield Band, and Heartbreak Fatty.
Ken was a member of the Disabled American Veteran's Chapter 18 of Fremont. He was a 1st degree Black Belt in Tae Kwondo, and had been an instructor with the Midwest Academy of Martial Arts in Fremont.
On September 1, 2007, Ken was married to Sandra Echtenkamp Zuerlein. She survives along with his daughter Christy and husband Bruce Maness of Moore, OK and his son Kevin McMahon of Los Angles, CA.; step-sons Jason and Sean Zuerlein of Fremont; 6 grandchildren, Michael, Tommy, Courtney, Bailey, Chandra, & Logan; 2 brothers, David McMahon of David City, NE and Brian Hook of Cleveland, OH; 5 sisters, Shirley McMahon of Alamosa, CO, Patty Watson of Elyria, OH, Pam Majoras and Cindy Barlow, both of Vermilion, OH, and Bridget Rini of Chagrin Falls, OH; several step-brothers and sisters; uncles Bill Crosby of Fremont and Don Crosby of Grand Island; father-in-law and mother-in-law Earl and Elayne Echtenkamp of Fremont; brother-in -law Gordie Echtenkamp of Dallas, Texas; sister-in-law Lynn Johnson of Georgetown, CA. He was preceded in death by his mother, father and step-father, daughter Judy Ann McMahon, and uncle Loyd Crosby.
Services will be announced at a future date. Memorials are suggested to the Dodge County Humane Society and to the Disabled American Veteran's Chapter 18. Ludvigsen Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
