Edna A. Walker, age 97, of Fremont

went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, March 30th, 2010 at Nye Legacy in Fremont. She was born in Sutton, Nebraska on March 5, 1913 to Henry and Sophie (Griess) Scheidemann.
Edna graduated from Sutton High School and moved to Hastings where she was employed at Mary Lanning Hospital in Dietary Services. Edna met and married Edward E. Walker of Hastings, NE in 1936. They moved to Fremont in January of 1950. He husband preceded her in death on June 10, 1966.

Edna was employed at Campbell Soup Co. for ten years. She also did babysitting and house cleaning for Fremont families. Her interests included a garden club, an extension club, quilting many quilts for grandchildren and her church, hospital volunteer, and years of participation in the life of her church, the First Congregational Church, UCC.

Her survivors: son - Edward E. Walker, Jr. and wife Jane of Fremont
2 daughters - Myrna A. Hanson and husband Donald of Yellow Springs, OH
Connie S. Grosse and husband Dennis of Phoenix, AZ
1 brother - Leon and wife Dorothy Scheidemann of Salem, OR
1 sister - Lucyle Sterkel of Sutton, NE
6 grandchildren - Scott Huff, Susan Mitterling and husband Randy, Douglas Hanson and wife
Lisamarie, Dr. Erin Cornwell and husband Dr. Ben, Seth Walker, and Jill
Walker.
5 great grandchildren - Sarah Lymber and husband Wade, Alex Huff, and Jacob, Joshua, and
Justin Mitterling.
2 great, great grandchildren - Evan and Nicholas Lymber
many other family members and friends.
Edna was preceded in death, in addition to her husband Edward, by a daughter Mary Ellen York, a sister Emma Krieger, and brothers Herman and Robert Scheidemann.

The funeral service will be 10 AM Saturday (April 3rd, 2010) at the First Congregational Church, UCC, with the Rev. Terri Akkerman officiating. The final resting place will be at Memorial Cemetery next to her husband and daughter. Visitation, with closed casket, at the Ludvigsen Mortuary will be on Friday from 2 to 8 PM, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 PM.

Memorials in memory of Edna are suggested to the First Congregational Church, UCC, organ fund and to the Fremont Area Medical Center Hospice.

"To dear Edna's family, How well I remember your mom and family when Edna helped my mom. And how she soothed my tears when I was a child, and had slammed my fingers in the door! Edna ran my fingers under cold water to ease the pain. She held me on her lap to comfort me until the pain went away. I also remember when my mom had a meeting or some such thing when I was in elementary school, and arranged for me to eat lunch at your house. Edna knew I loved her cinnamon rice, and she used to make it whenever I was there for lunch! My own mom used Minute Rice whenever she cooked it, and never explained the difference. But, I was well aware of it because I always used to ask my mom, "Why does your rice squeak when I chew it? Edna's never does! I like Edna's much better!" My mom never did learn how to make rice like your mom, but I never cooked Minute Rice again, once I learned the difference! I haven't had the opportunity to visit Fremont much since I left after college, but I remember when Edna came to my dad's memorial dinner in 1997. She approached me, and quietly asked, "Jane, do you remember me? I used to work for your mom." It took a minute, and then it dawned on me. It was Edna! I was delighted to see her, and so pleased that she could be there! The twinkle in her eye was very recognizable, and a "dead give away"! It was wonderful to see her, and made the dinner, which was held on the same day as my dad's memorial service, much easier to handle! She was a wonderful woman, and I send my condolences to all of you. Sincerely, Jane Walker"

"Goodbye, dear, sweet Edna... you have been such a kind and loving grandmother to me for over twenty years, and we'll miss you so much. When I met Douglas & we got married so young, you had only welcoming smiles and hugs for us... you were always so cheerful, and lively-- never holding bitterness or anger in your heart. Everyone in your life felt happier for knowing you, and you radiated a joyful zest for life which drew others to you. I'll never forget the time you donned my pink helmet and went for a ride w/ Douglas on his motorcycle... you were 73! I heard stories which have passed into legend, such as the time you wrapped on a headscarf and helped Don "bust the cement" in the hot sun at the old house on Miramar, and we always admired how you kept active throughout most of your life....you loved to bake, and made the most deliciously sweet cookies and candies... we loved to visit Fremont and hear all the stories of your childhood and growing up years... we dropped by many times on one of our cross-country drives and brought our kitties... you didn't make a fuss when Teddy jumped up onto the stereo cover and regally posed there, surveying the living room from his vantage point... you introduced me to Runzas, and we loved attending church with you and sitting around sipping coffee after the service as you visited w/ old and new friends.... we also enjoyed visiting you at Nye Square, where we gave talks on our travels and adventures... we didn't have much experience presenting to retired-age people, but with your talking us up & working the crowd, they were a huge hit! Such happy memories... enjoying nice lunches, getting ice cream and relaxing in the sunroom... you had a kind word for everyone we met, and brought light and cheer to everywhere you lived... Your life and especially later years serve as a role model, and we hope we can come close to being as peaceful and accepting as you were...
