Leslie was born March 22, 1920, to Johann H. and Gesina Bertha (Von Essen) Von Seggern, in rural Scribner, Nebraska. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He graduated from Scribner High School in 1937.
He was drafted into the Army in 1941 where he played the bugle and operated radar communication equipment. He was a member of the American Legion Post #121 of Scribner and United Lutheran Church of Scribner, and former member of the Scribner Area Chamber.
His father-in-law, Henry (Pat) Sevrean inspired him to become an auctioneer. He auctioned with many auctioneers and farmed all his life.
He began playing in dance bands in 1947. He played with Duane and Leslie, Cousins of Swing, Les's Merry Men, and various polka bands for many years.
Les married his first wife, Lois Sevrean, on June 19, 1949, at St. John's Ridgeley Lutheran Church, Scribner, Nebraska. They were married for 60+ years.
Survivors include his wife, Lois; son, Mark of Scribner; daughters, Vickie (Leigh) Porter of Lincoln, Brenda (Ray) Stern of Plattsmouth, and Tracie (Dan) Zahourek of Scribner. Eight grandchildren; Paul (Beth) Stern, Katie (Max) Sharp, Vanessa Porter, Valerie (Justin) Kubick, Jonathan Zahourek, Andrea (Dan) Espinoza, Stefanie Zahourek, and Joseph Zahourek. Six great-grandchildren. Brother, Marvin (Irene) Von Seggern; two sisters, Doloris Popken and Beverly (Martin) Homes and sister-in-law Emagean Sevrean.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Harlan Von Seggern; four sisters, Minerva Ivens, Eileen Drieling, Lucille Mallon and Wilma Miller; and one great-grandson, Collin Espinoza.
A celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, February 2, 2011, at United Lutheran Church in Scribner with Military honors by the American Legion Post #121. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 1st. at Ludvigsen's Scribner Funeral Chapel from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6:00 - 8:00.
