It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Oral M Long, Jr, who left this world peacefully on March 9, 2026. Oral was beloved by his family and friends and touched the lives of many with his kindness, humor, and unwavering love.
Oral was born on April 27, 1942, in Fremont, Nebraska to Oral M Long, Sr and Lillie (Carriger). He was raised in Fremont alongside his sisters, Helen and Evelyn. He graduated from Fremont High School in 1960. Following high school, Oral answered the call to serve his country, by enlisting in the United States Navy. He served with honor on active duty from 1960 to 1962, followed by three years in the Navy reserves.
In July 1968, Oral met Glenda Hasebroock and the two were united in marriage on January 24, 1970. The couple recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. Together they raised 3 sons.
Oral's career as a machinist took him from Crib & Silo to Nebraska Engineering and Railcar Specialties. After retirement, Oral's passion for bowling led him to work at several Omaha area bowling alleys, where he shared his love for the sport with others. As an avid bowler, he enjoyed coaching junior bowlers, his sons, and grandchildren. He also cherished the times spent coaching his sons in baseball and attending Kansas City Royals games.
A man of faith, Oral was a dedicated member of Saint Michael's Lutheran Church for 35 years, where he was involved in the Older Wiser Lutherans group.
Oral is survived by his devoted wife, Glenda; his sons, Travis (Angie) and Troy (Charla); and his grandchildren, Lee (Jennifer), Scott (Nikki), Trent (Ashley), Travis (Hope), Tara, Tyler, Jordin, and Dylan. He was also blessed with 23 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom brought immense joy to his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Oral Sr and Lillie, his son Tim, his sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen (Gill) Schulz and Evelyn (Elmer) Banks.
Oral's legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will forever be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him. Though he is no longer with us, the memories he created and the values he imparted will live on, guiding his family and friends through the days ahead.
Visitation Friday, March 13, 2026, 5pm to 7pm at Saint Michael Lutheran Church (13232 Blondo). Funeral 10am, Saturday at Saint Michael. Burial in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Cuming County Line following the lunch. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Saint Michael Lutheran Church or Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church Food Pantry.
