As a former Superintendent of Schools at Ainsworth, he and I worked together (along with several other superintendents) on school reorganization issues with the NE Legislature during the 1990's, while he was serving as Superintendent in Chadron. Even though we knew each other as fellow superintendents in the Rangeland Conference, we really got to know each other personally and became close friends during the trying time of working with the Legislature on a matter of great importance to both our school districts. Steve served as a truly professional administrator, being highly respected by his fellow superintendents. My condolences to his family, knowing that he is resting in peace."

"Steve was a outstanding leader in the educational world. His highest priority was to always provide what was best for the students. He was very thoughtful in any of his decisions he needed to make. Steve was a visionary for the school districts he worked at. He shared his knowledge with the Board of Education, the staff, the community and his team leaders to keep us all on the same mission. He was a very hard worker, yet humble, honorably and had outstanding integrity. He made many positive improvements for the Fremont Public School that will continue to make Fremont a leader in the educational arena of the state of Nebraska. Steve was a good man and I am proud that I had the opportunities to work with him through his tenure at FPS. Last, Steve was my good friend, I will miss him.
