LeRoy C. Nelsen, age 88, of Fremont
Died Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at Dunklau Garden in Fremont.
LeRoy was born on February 10, 1937 to N. Chris and Edel M. (Hansen) Nelsen and grew up north of Fremont on the family farm. After high school he joined the Air Force. After his service, he returned to farming in the Fremont area for many years. He was a master of the farmer's almanac, and built an impressive collection of farm and aviation toys. He enjoyed simple pleasures such as hosting his large family for Memorial Day and Labor Day picnics. He would easily strike up a conversation with anyone, and loved driving with his beloved dog, Dane, into town to get the mail.
He enjoyed and meticulously maintained the beautiful farm place north of Fremont that he was raised on and later would become the cherished backdrop of his grandkids' countless joyful memories. Turning onto LeRoy's lane felt like driving into a serene, storybook paradise with its pristinely drug lines in the gravel, perfectly manicured lawns, picturesque barns and beautiful groves.
Grandpa LeRoy was precise and protective of the things and people he loved. He showed his love through hard work and showing up. He loved being a grandpa. He had an enormous soft spot for animals as well as his grand and great grandchildren. It only took one call from "the girls" for grandpa to say yes to transforming and reviving his peaceful acreage into the home for their beloved horses. Most of all, LeRoy loved Pam. Their marriage was a testament to love and commitment, which meant the world to the collective family they built.

LeRoy is survived by his Wife, Pam Nelsen. Daughter, Elizabeth Ann Nelsen (Grandchildren: Lissy (John) Nicola, Ellen Janssen, Holly (Paul) Rasmussen). Son, Brian Nelsen (Grandchildren: Caitlin Meyer, Kristy Winkler, Carrie Thomas). Grandson, Orie Walker. Sister, Edith Willeford. Brother-in-law and special friend, Bob (Linda) Betkie. Sisters-in-law, Barb Robeson, Lori (Rudy) Nemec. Twelve great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, N. Chris and Edel M. Nelsen. Daughter, Diane Walker. Grandson, Joshua Nelsen. Father and mother-in-law, Ervin and Verna Smith. Brother-in-law William Willeford. And his beloved dog, Dane.
There is no viewing but the family will receive friends Friday, November 21, 2025 at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont from 5pm to 7pm. Private burial will be held later. Memorials are suggested to FurEver Homes in Fremont.
