Robert Dee Elrod, age 87, of Fremont
Died Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at home surrounded by family and friends.
Robert was born December 5, 1937 in Litchfield, Nebraska to Floyd and Dora 'Gooden' Elrod. He graduated from Grand Island High School in 1955. He joined the United States Air Force after high school and served for the next 30 years, retiring as Chief Master Sergeant. During his service he had multiple tours to Germany and deployed to Vietnam, also serving in Thailand, Korea and Japan.
In December of 1956 Bob married Shirley Strohm and had 3 children, David, Mike and Robin. Their marriage lasted 62 years.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Shirley in December of 2019, sister Lorna and brother Butch.
Bob is survived by his sisters Kay Waterman, Betty Elrod and Brother-in-law Tom (Sharon) Sasse. He is also survived his children Dave (Georgia Sdyzyk) Elrod, Mike Elrod and Robin (Kevin) Jones. Grandchildren Jamie Lynn Smith, Joshua Pommier, Justin Pommier, Larry Miller and Chad (Brittany) Searle and several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins that can be counted.
The funeral will be 10am, Saturday, March 29, 2025 at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. Burial with military honors by the Air Force Honor Guard will follow in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4pm to 8pm with the family present 6-8pm at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. Memorials are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project.
