Leonard L. 'Red' Bechtel, age 95, of Fremont
Died Friday, November 1, 2024 at Nye Legacy

Red was born June 27, 1929 in Dodge County to Royal and Ruth 'Sutton' Bechtel. He was raised in Fremont and attended Fremont High School. He entered the U.S. Army in 1948. He served in Korea and received the Korean Service Medal w/4 Bronze Stars, United Nations Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Red married Esther Jensen in 1950 in Kansas and was discharged from the Army in 1952. The couple returned to Fremont in 1954. Red worked construction for several years until joining the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1991.

After retirement he worked odd jobs but mostly loved to ride his motorcycle. Red had a fondness for helping kids and enjoyed taking them to the Shrine Circus for many years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and Fremont Masonic Lodge # 15 A.F & A.M.

Son – Mike (Linda) Bechtel of Fremont
Grandchildren – Brett (Nancy) Bechtel of Texas
Andrea (Shawn) Bales of Fremont
Gary Bechtel of Valley
Eric (Jasmine) Bechtel of Fremont
6 great grandchildren
1 brother-in-law and 2 sisters-in-law

Red was preceded in death by sons David and Mark, grandson Jason Bechtel, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

A Masonic Service will be 2pm, Wednesday, November 27, 2024 with a memorial service and military honors to follow immediately after. All services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Fremont beginning at 2pm. Burial will be at a later date in Memorial Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Shrine Hospitals.
