Lowell Eldean Bloemker, age 94, formerly of Fremont, NE, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather was called to his heavenly home on Sunday, April 7, 2024. He died peacefully at the age of 94 while residing at Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Humboldt, NE, after moving there so he could be closer to family.
Lowell was born January 24, 1930 in rural Washington County, NE to John and Esther (Maurer) Bloemker and baptized in the Christian faith on January 30, 1930. He confirmed his faith on April 18, 1943 at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Hooper, NE. He attended Fontanelle High School, later receiving his GED after needing to quit high school early to help sustain his parent's farm while his older brothers were away serving in the military. After obtaining his GED, Lowell furthered his education by attending evening classes at Midland College, Fremont, NE.
He married Janet Meyer on Jan 1, 1956 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Hooper. Their life together was blessed with five children. Over the years, the family moved across three states, creating the opportunity to make wonderful memories and new friends at each place. They then moved to Fremont to enjoy retirement.
Being raised on a farm, Lowell loved the rural farm life, raising dairy cattle, hogs and farming crops early in his married life while together also raising a family. He retired from farming in 1966, moving the family to Huron, South Dakota where he accepted a position as District Manager for Archer Petroleum Corporation. Later in life he pursued his interests in heavy machine manufacturing, most notably working as a design drafter in the R&D department of Gomaco Manufacturing in Ida Grove, IA. He also served for 12 years on the Ida Grove City Council while living there.
He retired in October 1998, and enjoyed pursuing other interests including hunting, reading, writing poetry, square dancing, card playing, traveling, and visiting family. He, along with his brother Russ would regularly visit residents in the local nursing homes. He also stayed active in both civic and church volunteer work, including roles in various church offices and in the local Fremont Lutherans for Life branch in protecting the unborn.
Lowell is survived by his five children, son Terry (Karen) Bloemker of Pflugerville, TX; son David (Laura) Bloemker of Round Rock, TX, daughter Dianne (Gene) Eller of West Linn, OR; daughter Tamra (Bob) Musil of DuBois, NE; and son Scott Bloemker of Kerrville, TX; one sister-in-law Donna Bloemker of Washington, PA. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Janet of 64 years, two brothers Vernon (Donna) Bloemker and Russel (Le) Bloemker, and one grandson Dennis L. "DJ" Tague.
The funeral will be 10:30am, Monday, April 15th at Trinity Lutheran Church of Fremont with Vicar Greg Rathke officiating. Burial will follow in the Hooper Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday April 14th at Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont with family present from 2pm to 5pm. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church of Fremont. The service will be livestreamed through the church's website.
