Gary L. Spies, age 78, of Fremont
Died Saturday, September 2, 2023 at the VA Medical Center in Omaha.
Gary was born June 1, 1945 in North Bend to Bernard and Darlene 'Chudomelka' Spies. He was raised in Dodge and graduated from high school in 1963. After high school he attended Doane College until enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in 1967. Part of his service was in Vietnam. After his service ended he returned to Doane to finish his degree. He then worked with his father in the dairy business. After working with his father Gary then began a long career working mostly for Interstate Industrial Instrumentation in Omaha.
Gary married Sheryl Griffin Cass on February 17, 1973. During their married years they lived in Fremont then LeMars, Iowa before coming back to Fremont where they lived for 40 years until just recently moving to Bellevue. Gary had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont and the VFW Post 8597 of Dodge.

Great Grandchildren – Braelyn Jurgensmeier and Lexa Jurgensmeier
Brother – Jeff (Tammy) Spies
Sister-in-law – Leah Griffin
Brother-in-law – Ric Ortmeier
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Debbra Cass, sister Wanda Ortmeier and nephew Christopher Ortmeier.
The memorial service will be 10am, Monday, September 11, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont. Vicar Greg Rathke will officiate. Burial will be in the Omaha National Cemetery at 1:30pm with Military Honors by the Fremont Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in Gary's name to the charity of your choice.
