Charles H. McKenzie, age 90, of Fremont
Died Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at the Florence Home in Omaha.
Charles was born November 4, 1932 in Fremont to Joseph and Bernice 'Snodgrass' McKenzie. He attended Fremont Jr. and Sr. High school. Charles married Margy Meier on February 1, 1953 at the Methodist Church in Hooper. Charles had been drafted and 2 weeks after his marriage he joined the U.S. Army and was sent to Seoul, South Korea and served as a quartermaster. He served 18 months and then returned to the United States. He then attended Milford Trade School and studied electricity and electronics. He graduated in 1958 and later went to work for the IBEW Local #22 in Omaha.
Charles enjoyed music and sang in many barbershop quartets. His latest quartet was "The Vocalmotives" and their most requested song was "Babyface".
Charles is survived by his wife of 70 years Margy of Fremont, sons Michael, Roger, Douglas and Bryan (Angie) all of Fremont, 2 grandchildren Melissa (Cory) Dunn, Matthew (Anna) McKenzie, two step grandchildren Levi(Claire) Wray and Kelci Wray and 4 great grandchildren Norah, Sienna, Emelia and Lydia.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and sister Ruth Flake.
The memorial service will be 2pm, Monday, July 17, 2023 at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. There is no viewing but the family will receive friends on Sunday, July 16, 2023 from 1pm to 3pm also at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery with military honors.
