Sue A. Blomendahl, 87, of Hooper, Nebraska
Died on June 21, 2023 at Shalimar Gardens in Fremont.

Sue was born on July 6, 1935 to Joseph and Norma Simmons in Mapleton, Iowa. She was baptized at the Methodist church in Danbury, Iowa. Sue graduated from Hooper High school in 1953. She attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she graduated in 1957 with a BS in Home Economics. She married Glenn Blomendahl on December 6, 1956, at First Methodist Church in Hooper. Sue began her teaching career at Seward High school and then Hooper High school, before staying home to raise her growing family. She reentered the teaching profession, becoming a library aide at Logan View High school. She earned an advanced degree in library sciences and instructional media from Nebraska Wesleyan. Sue began her media specialist career at West Point High school in 1981. She became the media specialist at Logan View in 1984, where she enjoyed working with the students and teachers until her retirement in 2001.

Sue served as church council member and then again as president of the council, Sunday school teacher, and choir member. She was a member of the Hooper Legion Auxiliary, and a Girl Scout leader for many years. Sue loved playing Bridge with friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Glenn, her parents, her stepfather Robert Bailey, and a brother, David Simmons. Survivors include children, Gayle Gillett of Papillion, Barb (Tod) Hilgenkamp of Solon, Iowa; Glenn (Gay) Blomendahl of Herman, and Shari (Todd) Smith of Herman. Grandchildren Mark (Samantha) Gillett of Misawa, Japan; Bryan and Joseph Gillett of Papillion, Blaine Hilgenkamp of Herman, Hannah Hilgenkamp of Solon, Iowa; Cole (Candace) Blomendahl of Wahoo, Shane (Kara) Blomendahl of Hooper, Luke (Amy) Blomendahl of Hooper, Noah Blomendahl of Herman, Katelyn Smith and Ryan Smith of Herman. Great Grandchildren Mark, Elena and Kai Gillett of Misawa, Japan; Grace Gillett of Alaska, Lauren, Madelyn, Jack and James Blomendahl of Wahoo, Margaret, Lucy and Ruthie Su Blomendahl of Hooper, Barrett and Olive Blomendahl of Hooper. Sister Sandra Looschen of Fremont, Brothers Joseph (Debra) Simmons of Virginia and Steve (Sharon) Simmons of Fremont. Sister-in-law Anita (Jim) Childers of Eagle, Brothers-in-law Leon (Ardeth) Blomendahl of Fremont and Herb (Jan) Blomendahl of Hooper.

The celebration of Sue's life will be Wednesday, June 28th, 10:30 am at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper, with a luncheon to follow. Visitation will be at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper on Tuesday, June 27th from 4-8 pm with the family receiving friends from 6-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Redeemer Lutheran Church or Lutheran Family Services. There will be a private family committal before the celebration of Life service.
