Ray was born January 12, 1926 in Randolph, NE. to John and Elsie 'Giesselmann' Greunke. He grew up in Wayne County, NE. on the family farm near Randolph until moving to Arlington. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in Germany. He continued his military service in the Army Reserves attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was employed at Hormel Foods for 30 years, retiring in 1977.
He married Marcella Honcik on April 2, 1950 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont. Marcella died on March 26, 2008.
Ray served and enjoyed the many years on the Fremont Honor Guard. He was a life member of the VFW Post 854 of Fremont. He was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 60 years serving on many committees including as an Elder and Sunday School Superintendent.

The funeral will be at 10am Saturday September 10, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont. The Revs. Dan Heuer and David Coe will officiate. Memorials are suggested to the Fremont Honor Guard and Trinity Lutheran Church Sunday School. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors by the Fremont Honor Guard. Visitation will be Friday 3pm to 8pm with the family receiving friends from 6pm to 8pm at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will continue 1 hour before the service at the church.
