✦ ✦ ✦
Ross was born October 18, 1915 in Fremont, Nebraska to Albert and Anna (Johnson) Christensen. His family lived in a number of farming communities in eastern Nebraska. After a cold winter and hot summer in the mid 1930's, he went to Oregon where he worked in a saw mill and also as a farmhand. He was called to serve his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He fought in Germany, Belgium, and France. When he returned home from the war, he settled in Hooper, Nebraska, where he farmed, milked cows, and raised hogs and chickens for approximately 30 years.

He married Fern Shaffer on August 27, 1948 in Grand Island, Nebraska. Fern died on March 25, 1999.

Ross enjoyed traveling to see friends and relatives who were scattered throughout the United States. He especially enjoyed attending the annual army reunions of the 95th Infantry Division. He and Fern looked forward to visits from several of his army buddies, and they filled many cassette tapes with conversations about their war memories. He resided at the Hooper Care Center since December of 2003. He spoke often about the wonderful people who cared for him there.
