Oma R. Lederer (Laney), age 80, passed away Tuesday morning, April 14th, 2020, at Dunklau Gardens in Fremont, Nebraska.

She was born March 20th, 1940, in Scott County, Virginia, a daughter of the late Monroe Laney and Mamie Laney (Hargis).

Oma was preceded in death by four sisters, Irene, Ruth, Clarice, and Kathleen; one brother, Buford; and one grandchild, Jared.

She was a passionate Christian, devoted homemaker, and a southern belle, full of charm and grace until the very end. She spent her final years in Nebraska, to be closer to her children, the lights of her life. Much of her heart, however, remained in Kingsport, Tennessee, where she spent most of her life, and deeply cherished time with her siblings and extended family.

Oma is survived by one sister, Bessie Hammonds; three daughters and one son-in-law, Dana Dingus, Tina Willis, and Cynthia and Eden Whitten; one son and one daughter-in-law, John and Marcy Lederer.

She is also survived by six grandchildren, Tiah, Erika, Trent, Brianna, Kristen, and Seth who all fondly remember the smell of "Nene's" biscuits and gravy on Saturday mornings and were quick to behave whenever Nene's down-home cooking was being prepared. Nene also taught them how to cook, garden, and sew, but most importantly, instilled her Southern etiquette and Christian morals within them at a young age. When other adults weren't looking, though, you could see Nene playing with dinosaurs with Trent, singing songs to Brianna, Kristen, and Seth, or playing games and puzzles with Tiah and Erika. Oma is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Tajah, Terrence, Tinayah, and Titan, who also shared this same love for and new memories with Nene.

No services will be held at this time. In light of COVID-19, services will be held in both Nebraska and Tennessee at a later date when all of Oma's family can celebrate her life and memory together.

"My mother's cousin was a fine example of a great human being. I know she had her ups and downs like everyone, but I never saw her without a smile and kind words to make others feel better. Extremely devoted to family and friends, she had a way of bringing people closer. As a teenager, I had great times going to her house, eating and playing cards. Rest in peace, beloved cousin. I know my mom, Ines Laney, greeted you with open arms upon your arrival in heaven."

"Hi Nene, words cannot Express how much I love you and miss you. I am still trying to get used to the fact that you're with Jesus now. I love you and will always remember you. Thank you for all the sleep overs. Thank you for driving me to school on school mornings. Thank you for staying up at night and watching Fraiser with me. So much fun and I still watch Fraiser. Thank you for being so funny even though maybe you didn't know it.

You were and are awesome. I love you.
I'll see you in Heaven one day"
