James was born on August 31, 1932 in Abar, Colorado. His parents were Jesse and Nellie (Burge) Bliven. He grew up in western Nebraska.
On February 14, 1951, he was married to Wauneta Schmidt. They became residents of Fremont in 1963. Here, James was a police officer for a time before becoming a deputy with the Dodge County Sheriff's Department.
Later he worked for Valmont Industries and retired from there.
He was a member of the Fremont Eagles Arie 200.
His wife Wauneta, died in January of this year.

The funeral service will be 10:30 AM Wednesday (Nov. 9, 2011) in the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel, Fremont, with Rev. Jackie Hart officiating. There will be a private family committal.
The visitation will be on Tuesday (Nov. 8th) from 3 to 8 PM at the Ludvigsen Mortuary, Fremont.
