Verna was born July 28, 1913 in Fremont to Martin and Elna (Svendsen) Hansen. She grew up in Fremont and graduated from high school here, then worked for the Kresge Co.
On September 1, 1939, Verna was married to Gilbert R. Wallick in Fremont. They owned and operated the Wallick Wallpaper, Paint, and Art Supply Store in downtown Fremont, along with The Wallick Sign Shop. Gilbert died in January of 1965 and Verna continued operating the business for 2 years. Then she went to work for the First National Bank, and later she worked for Phelps Tobacco and Candy Wholesale Co. as a bookkeeper and secretary, retiring after 16 years there.
On July 11, 1986, Verna was married to Joy Andersen in Kronberg, Nebraska, in the same church where her parents had been married. They made their home in Sun City, California. Joy died in May of 1993 and a year later Verna returned to Fremont.
Verna was a member of First Lutheran Church, Arbor Vitae Chapter 92 Order of Eastern Star, Fremont Eagles Auxiliary, and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
She was preceded in death by her sister Helga Anderson, and her brother Martin Hansen, as well as her 2 husbands.
There will be a memorial service for Verna at 3 PM Friday (Nov. 11th) at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Charlie Axness officiating and the committal following in Memorial Cemetery. There is no public visitation. Memorials are suggested to First Lutheran Church.
