John was born September 8, 1934 in Omaha to Ivan and Norma 'Johnson' Stewart. After his schooling John served in the United States Army from 1956 until 1958. After his military service John worked for Hormel in Fremont for several years then for a trucking company for a short time. During his working years, John was an avid racer, racing midget and sprint cars, winning a midget championship in 1970.

John was preceded in death by his wife Alberta 'Bert' Stewart in 2012, daughter-in-law Deb and brother Richard.

The funeral will be 1pm Wednesday at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. The Rev. Scott Jensen will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors by the Fremont Honor Guard. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3pm to 8pm with the family present from 6pm to 8pm also at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family.
