Roxie was born June 27, 1920 to Hiram and Carrie (Dix) Atwood near Anoka, Nebraska. She grew up in South Dakota and came with her family to Fremont in August of 1935. Roxie graduated from Fremont High School in 1939.
On July 6, 1939, Roxie was married to Claude Vance in Ravenna, Nebraska. They lived in Scottsbluff, Holbrook, Ariz., and Denver, Colorado, before returning to Fremont in 1942. Roxie had worked for the F.W.Woolworth Dime Store in downtown Fremont for 25 years. She began working there as Christmas help, and when she retired in 1980, she was the personnel supervisor.
Roxie was preceded in death by her husband Claude in August of 1993, 7 sisters, 1 brother, son Robert Vance, and daughter Ruth Hammond.

The funeral service will be 11 AM Tuesday (January 3. 2012) at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel, Fremont, with the Deacon Dan Mueller of St. Patrick's Catholic Church officiating. The committal will follow in Ridge Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Odyssey Hospice.
Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary will be Tuesday morning (Jan. 3rd) from 9 AM until service time at 11 AM.
