Eula Marie was born at home near Webster NE during thrashing time on July 6, 1923 to Grover and Johanna Hoye Porter. She was the youngest of their five children. Her siblings included Harold, Harland, Donald and Minerva . She was baptized and confirmed as a member of St. John's Ridgely Church. She attended rural school and graduated from Scribner High School in 1940. She then attended Wayne State Normal Training to prepare her for a long career in teaching elementary school. She returned to the Webster area to teach in 1941.
She married Wesley Hingst, whom she met at a Luther League convention, on February 4, 1945. They moved to the Emerson NE area to farm after being married. They returned to the Webster area to farm in 1949 and she lived in the Scribner area thereafter. Wesley preceded her in death on December 4, 1983.
Eula Marie and Wesley had three children, Joan, Marty and David. She devoted her efforts to raising her family and assisting with the farm until 1959, when she went back to teaching full time on an emergency teaching certificate. She continued teaching and went back to graduate from Midland College by attending night and summer classes. She taught in various rural schools in Dodge and Cuming County until 1970 when she began teaching at Scribner Snyder Community School, Fifth and Sixth Grade math, social studies and science. After retiring from teaching in 1998 she was a frequent substitute teacher, a constant volunteer at the school and took tickets at athletic events at Scribner-Snyder until she moved to the Elkhorn Valley Villa in 2008. Eula Marie moved to the Good Samaritan Care Center in January 2010.
Eula Marie was very active in various church organizations throughout her life. She was a Sunday School teacher, Bible School Teacher, member of the LCW, a Sunday lector and served in other capacities as needed throughout the years. She had often expressed that she wanted to become a missionary after high school, but her parents believed teaching was better suited for a young woman at that time. Eula Marie has been a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper for the last 25 years.
Eula Marie is survived by her children, Joan (Arthur) Luebbert of Omaha, Marty (Charlene) Hingst of Milford and David (Glenda) Hingst of Hooper, 9 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren, along with her sister, Minerva Naber of Scribner, sister-in-laws Marilyn Porter of Scribner, Lilian Simon of Broomfield CO, Mildred Brownell of Wakefield NE, Marie Hingst of Emerson NE and brother-in-law Alvin Hingst of Emerson NE.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Eula Marie Hingst will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper on Saturday, January 7 at 10:30am. Pastor Joel Schroeder will officiate. A graveside service will be 1pm at the Scribner Cemetery. Visitation at Ludvigsen's Scribner Funeral Chapel will be Friday from 3pm to 8pm with a prayer service at 7:00pm
