Joyce E. Nelson, 78, of Hooper/Uehling area.,
died Friday (Aug. 18,2017) in the Hooper Care Center.
Joyce was born to Ernest and Violet (Johnson) Nelson on July 11, 1939 on the farm in rural Hooper, Nebraska. She grew up in the Hooper /Uehling area attending the Swaburg elementary school and graduating from Uehling High School in 1956 at the age of 16.
She attended a business college in Omaha, then went to work for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Omaha. During her career there, she eventually earned her way into management, retiring from the company in 1990. She later bought a bar in Uehling that her brother Gene Nelson, operated. Following her retirement she provided care for her parents and other relatives. She also did a lot of traveling.
Joyce was a member of Elim Lutheran Church of Swaburg (rural Hooper), American Business Women of America, Telephone Pioneers of America, and other women's organizations.
She was preceded by her parents Ernest and Viola, sister LaRae and her husband Dwain Larson, brother Gene Nelson, and nephew Gerid Nelson.

The funeral service will be 10:30 AM Wednesday (Aug. 23rd) at Elim Lutheran Church, Swaburg, with the Rev. Judith Johnson. The committal will be in West Admah Cemetery with Rev. Mark Eldal.
Visitation at Ludvigsen's Hooper Funeral Chapel will be today (Tuesday, Aug. 22nd) from 4 to 8 PM with the family present from 6 to 8 PM. Memorials may be directed to the family for distribution.
