Vera was born May 5, 1916 in the family home near Nickerson to August and Martha (Lallman) Stuenkel. She grew up in the Nickerson area. She received her education in the Rosedale School (north of Fremont) and she also attended Trinity Lutheran School in Fremont.

Vera had worked for Hammond-Stevens Co. in Fremont and later she worked in the Dodge County Assessor's Office in Fremont.

On December 14, 1968, Vera was married to Soren Nielsen. They lived on his farm north of Fremont, and she did the bookkeeping and helped with some of the other farm chores. They moved into Fremont in 1975.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church and had been a member of it's Dorcas Circle.

Vera was preceded in death her husband Soren in August of 2002, and by 3 sisters, Alice, Esther, and Loraine, and 2 brothers, Elmer and Harold Stuenkel, and her parents.

The funeral service will be 10 AM Friday (January 13, 2012) at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Charlie Axness officiating. The committal will follow in Ridge Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to First Lutheran Church.

Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary will be on Thursday (Jan. 12th) from 4 PM to 8 PM and at the church Friday morning for an hour before the service.

"Vera was an awesome lady. I was lucky enough to get to know her & see her everyday at Nye Legacy. She would stop by my office quite often & we would just talk about life. God gained another beautiful angel..she will truly be missed."
