Alta M. Miller age 96, of Hooper
Passed away peacefully Friday June 23, 2017 at the Hooper Care Center
Alta May Shaffer was born on a farm west of Hooper on April 3, 1921, graduated from Hooper High School in 1939 and was married to Glenn Miller in 1949. She worked for the Hooper Telephone Company for 20 years and for the Hooper Gas Company for 10 years. She belonged to Faith United Methodist Church where she was active in the U.M.W. ladies group. She also belonged to the R.S.V.P. program, SMILE club, and was often a hostess at the Over 60 Center. She volunteered many hours at the Hooper Care Center. She enjoyed being with the elderly adding some happiness to their day. Alta was the recipient of a Good Neighbor Award in 1993. Never having children of her own, she was a big part of her step children Russ and Joanie's lives and was very close to her grand-daughters Karen and Donna in her final years. She will be missed very much.
Alta was preceded in death by her husband in 1993, step children Russ, daughter Joanie and sister Vera Christensen.
The funeral service will be 11am Tuesday at Faith United Methodist Church in Hooper. The Rev. Dennis Wheeler will officiate. Luncheon to follow at church. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Omaha. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church in Hooper.
