Sylvia was born to Wesley and Maude (Estes) Dooley on August 31, 1931 in Niobrara, Nebraska. At the age of 12, she moved with her family to Wausa. There she graduated from high school, then attended Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska during the summer. She taught at a rural school near Orchard for a year.
On November 5, 1951, Sylvia was married in Lincoln, Nebraska to George R. Bertram. They lived in Fremont, then briefly in Omaha and Council Bluffs, then to Falls City, and in 1956, returned to Fremont and have resided here since. In Fremont, Sylvia had worked in the record keeping department of the hospital for 9 years, then accompanied her husband for several years on his trips as an over the road truck driver.
Sylvia was a member of Salem Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by a son Richard in 2002, and infant daughter Gayleen, grandson Bradley in January of 2012, a sister and an infant sister, and 6 brothers including 3 infant brothers.

The funeral service will be 2 PM Friday (Febr. 17th) at Salem Lutheran Church with Rev. Michael Thomas. The committal will follow in Ridge Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Kidney Foundation.
Visitation will be at the Ludvigsen Mortuary, Fremont, on Thursday from 2 to 8 PM. and at the church on Friday for an hour before the service.
