Thorle was born July 4, 1920 in Avoca, Iowa to Ricklef and Irma (Aldrich) Plahn. He grew up in Avoca and graduated from Avoca High School in 1937.
On December 2, 1940, Thorle was married to Arlene Sorensen. He served in the 325th United States Army Air Force from September of 1943 to March of 1946. Early in his working years, he worked for area farmers in the Avoca and Harlan areas of Iowa. From 1951 to '53, he was employed by the Manning Elevator in Manning, Iowa, then from 1953 to '60, he was with the I & K Grain and Feeds of Irwin, Iowa. In 1960, the family moved to Fremont, where he was employed by the Fremont Farmers Union, and then he worked for Walnut Grove Feeds in Spirit Lake, Iowa during the years of 1969 & '70. From 1970 to '73, he was with the Rising City Coop in Rising City, Nebraska. From 1973 to '84, he worked for the Friend Coop in Friend, Nebraska. In 1984 he retired and again moved to Fremont and has resided here since.
Thorle was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fremont. He was also a member and Past President of the Golden 'K' Kiwanis Club, and a member of the Eagles Aerie 200, and American Legion Post 20, all of Fremont. He was a member and Past Master of the Friend Masonic Lodge No. 72 A.F. & A.M. in Friend, Nebraska, and also a member of Sesotris Shrine Center of Lincoln.
Thorle was preceded in death by his wife Arlene in July of 2004, by a son Jack Charles Plahn (died in the Vietnam Conflict), and a sister Margaret.

The funeral service will be 10 AM Wednesday (Febr. 29th) at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Greg Hall officiating. The committal will follow in Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors by the Fremont Honor Guard (American Legion Post 20 & VFW Post 854). Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary, Fremont, will be on Tuesday from 4 to 8 PM, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 PM.
