Ovidia M. Smith, age 90, of Fremont,
died early Saturday, July 11, 2015, in her home.

Ovidia Marie Norbye Smith passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 11, 2015. Ovidia was born on September 13, 1924 to Ingebrigt and Karen (Langli) Norbye in Limon, CO.

Ovidia was baptized and confirmed at Walks Camp Lutheran Church in Limon, CO. She graduated from Limon High School in 1942, and married Robert I. Smith on February 22, 1944. Ovidia and Bob were residents of Kansas until their move to Fremont in 1956. A member of the First Congregational Church since 1970, Ovidia served on many committees, was a deaconess, active in the Church Bazaar, youth group, and taught Sunday school for preschoolers. She served as a Gray Lady at Fremont Area Medical Center, and was a volunteer for community blood drives. Ovidia's interests included sewing, crafting, baking, cards and music, but her greatest joy was being a homemaker and caring for her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a sweet, quiet woman and will be dearly missed.

Survivors include: Husband, Robert 'Bob' Smith; Son, Scott Norbye Smith, Omaha. Daughters, Janice Laughlin, Omaha; Barbara (David) Christiansen, Littleton, CO; Kay (Craig) Guffey, Corsica, SD; Kathy (Jeff) Nelson, Fremont; and Carol Smith, Fremont. Brother, Peder J. Norbye, of Limon, CO; Sisters, Rosalia Lohmeier, Limon, CO, and Inga Pirkle, Aurora, CO. Grandchildren: Keith Becker, Karen Becker, Shelley Martin, Tammy Becker-Bieniasz, Amy (Ben) Morrow, Clete (Michelle) Christiansen, Michael Nelson, Christy Smith, Chad Hooker, Melissa (Alex) Crosby, Jodie (Steve) Schafer, Ryan Nelson. Ovidia was also blessed with 22 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

Ovidia was preceded in death by her parents; a brother Olaf in infancy; one sister Guri Olive Calvert; one brother Olaf Magne Norbye; eleven sisters in-law; thirteen brothers in-law; a son-in-law, Jerry Hooker; a great-granddaughter Grace Cecelia Becker; two nieces and four nephews.


The memorial service will be 2 PM Friday (July 17th) at the First Congregational Church, UCC., with the Rev. A. David Paul. Ovidia's family will receive friends Thursday evening, 6 to 8 PM, at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the First Congregational Church and to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, Inc.

"Dearest Momma...... My heart is breaking & I miss you so much! I understand why you left me....& I know you're in Heaven with your siblings & parents. Daddy is having a hard time without you but you know he's surrounded by love...... We pray each day will get easier for Daddy & don't worry, we will take good care of Daddy for you!!
