Rose was born February 21, 1913 in Omaha to David and Nettie (Downhour) Walling. She moved, at 18 months of age, with her family to Wisconsin. Then when she was 4 years old, she moved with her family to Lincoln, Nebraska where she grew up. She graduated from the Lincoln high school that was run by the university, then attended a teachers college, also run by the university.
Rose married married Dr. Kenneth H. Martin in 1955 in Aurora, Nebraska. They lived in Lincoln where she had operated an antique business prior to her marriage. The couple moved to Fremont in 1961, and her husband died in May of 1971. Rose worked as a nurse technician in the obstetrics department of the hospital in Fremont and also worked in the home health department. Later she assisted private patients.
She was a member of the First Christian Church where she has served in most of the offices of the church, as well as the offices of it's Christian Womens Fellowship. She was a member of Arbor Vitae Chapter 92 Order of the Eastern Star.
Her survivors that she helped raise - nephew G. Matthew Dittmann of Tingley, Iowa
niece - Veriel Nickell of Kansas
She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
The funeral service will be 11 AM Wednesday (March 21, 2012) at the First Christian Church (11th & Nye) with the Rev. Greg Lugn officiating. A graveside service will be at 2 PM in Lincoln in the Lincoln Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday morning only at the church beginning at 9 AM until the service at 11 AM.
